This Sunday is the Third Sunday of Lent. This Sunday's Gospel is John 4:5-42. You can read the entire text (along with all the readings this week) by clicking here.
I invite you during Lent this year to make this church season a time of heart work. The heart work of Lent is to be more open to the presence and workings of God in our lives, our community and our world. All of this calls us to live out our baptismal promise in Christ and be a light to the world through Grace, Forgiveness and Love.
During Lent this year the Gospel texts from last Sunday, 3-12-17 through 4-2-17 are all from John and are what you might call "Holy Conversations". (I wish I could say this was my original idea but it comes from Professor Karoline Lewis of Luther Seminary's "Dear Working Preacher" series. Last week Nicodemus had a conversation about spirit, being reborn and water. This week is the Samaritan woman at the well. Next week is about the man born blind. All of them are "holy conversations" with Jesus and conversations which transform their hearts from misunderstanding and unknowing into faith in Jesus.
A conversation with Jesus is not black and white but is a dynamic dialogue which teaches, reveals and surprises the people who are in these conversations with Jesus. What starts as a conversation ends up as a life-giving relationship with Jesus, God and Spirit.
As you read the Gospel lesson below give yourself the grace to read it as a dynamic dialogue faith building relationship exercise with Jesus. Have fun.
So, follow your heart. Let the light of God's Grace shine in everything you do. Let the light of God's real Forgiveness shine in everything you do. Let the light of God's Love shine in everything you do. Blessings and peace be with you all!
See you in church,
Interim Pastor Craig Storlie
