A message from Pastor Craig . . .

Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?" Then he said to him, "Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well." Luke 17:18-19

Last night at PoP's Wednesday Night Lectionary Bible Study, the above two verses were the phrases that stood out and caught our attention; "except this foreigner," and "your faith has made you well."

Jesus was traveling with his entourage and was approached by 10 lepers who asked him for mercy (healing). See the full text below. They were healed, but the only one who returned praising God was the foreigner, the Samaritan. Jesus used this event as a teaching moment to teach about who deserves God's mercy and who is able to praise God for mercy showed. The answer is, any and all of God's children, no matter what their religious background is or is not.

This is what Jesus is like, he gives grace, forgiveness, healing and love away free. Absolutely, unconditionally, FREE! And if he includes a "but you must also" condition to the gift, its usually because he is trying to get you to comprehend what just happened to you and how God is in this with you rather than how you can or cannot deserve such a gift. After all it is a gift.

This is where faith comes in. Seeing through the eyes of faith that all the grace, forgiveness and love that you live your life in, is real. So real that they overflow all over, in, with and around you. What are you going to do? Praise God?

See you in Church,

Interim Pastor Craig Storlie
